Welcome to A Worldwide Education!
I am a fourth year doctoral student in Curriculum and Instruction for Social Studies; my masters and bachelor’s are in Social Studies Education. But beyond that, I’m increasingly drawn to geography, culture, and the global village we live in.
What better way to understand what I teach, than to see everything I can? Africa in particular means a great deal to me. I extensively followed the Darfur conflict with my students, and began to really study what the HIV/AIDS pandemic means to a continent crippled with corruption, conflicts, and uneven resource distribution.
In the summer of 2009 I taught HIV/AIDS awareness to children outside of Lilongwe, Malawi with the World Camp for Kids program. It was an amazing experience that I loved sharing with everyone in my life.
The establishment of this blog and my website, as well as my youtube channel, were done to both chronicle my life during these experience, and to help me fundraise. Now that the trip is over, I hope to continue reaching out to other people who are interested in participating in the World Camp program, teachers who are curious about Africa and HIV/AIDS education, and students who want to know what graduate school is like.
I wanted to create a place where teachers could come and find resources on teaching about the world. There are obvious specific topics and regions that I’m interested in. I’ve begun to compile, so the better the word is spread that I have lesson plans to give out, the better. I know how hard it is to come up with creative and engaging plans–especially student-centered and differentiated ones.
You can navigate the different pages at the top, or check out the blog to the right under ‘The Blog: Recent Posts’ or go farther back in the archives to read about my summer in Malawi.
Allons-y!
