2008 is the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. And what, might you ask, is that?

It’s a UN charter that was signed in 1948, confirming that every human being has certain rights. Among them are freedom, justice, and peace; all people have a right to be treated the same, no matter what race, gender, sexual orientation, age, disability, political affiliation, language, religion, property, birth, or other status they might be or have.

No one should be tortured, punished, or detained without trial; no one should be submitted to slavery; everyone has equal rights under the law.

People have a right to correspondence with their families; they have a right to free education at the elementary level.

Know your rights. Know the rights of everyone. Sign it, pass it along.
